Give Chase presents a site-specific installation by Rindon Johnson that unfolds through material, architecture, and shifting perception. White-coated cowhides, arranged along the walls of the space, become surfaces that carry social, political, and material histories. As a surplus product of the meat industry, later recirculated through the fashion industry, the hides carry complex economic and ecological histories while retaining their physical presence as skin. Alongside these works, Johnson introduces a custom-built bench that invites visitors to pause and engage with the world beyond the exhibition space itself.

Positioned in relation to the street-facing window, the bench frames the tree across the street. For Give Chase, a window (typically concealed behind GUTS’ curtains) was intentionally revealed, making the view outside an integral part of the visitor’s experience. A mirrored mechanism introduced a reflection of sunlight onto the opposite façade, bringing attention to the passing of time and changing conditions of light.

GUTS curtains become a the spatial framework for Johnson’s intervention. Extended by the white-coated hides, they create a continuous spatial composition in which architecture, material, and the changing view outside are brought into dialogue. The exhibition invites visitors to consider the histories embedded in materials and the act of looking itself.
