In Liking the Same Thing, Lotte Leerschool confronts the original singular line of her ink drawings to its multiplication by a Xerox machine. Surprisingly, reproduction becomes a means of sharpening and tightening the formal qualities of these lines. As the accompanying text suggests, the line is suspended between the myth of originality and the apparent banality of the doodle, revealing how distance, repetition, and contrast make a gesture more visible.
The arrangement of the images plays with the concave and convex folds of GUTS’ curtains, while paper rolls placed in the corridor echo the image drum of the Xerox machine, bringing the mechanism of reproduction into the physical space. The monumental columns form part of this dramaturgy. As spectators move between them, their bodies perform the paper going through the machine.

The exhibition was accompanied by a pop-up booklet in which the essay appears alongside reduced reproductions of the drawings. Printed at a much smaller scale than the originals, the reproduced marks begin to read like glyphs, suspended between writing and drawing, extending the work’s reflection on reproduction, legibility, and the status of the line.
