On two dates, GUTS presented a concert by spalarnia, the music and poetry alias of Wojciech Kosma.
spalarnia blends hypnotic, darkly melodic sound, auto-tuned poetry, intimate performance, and an earnest dissent against the exclusionary politics of Poland’s authoritarian government. Moving between new-old folk, slowed-down pop, protest song, and distorted religious meditation, the work creates a space for gently sung Polish poems that imagine utopian futures beyond fascism while exploring pleasure, sensuality, and closeness as forms of resistance and meaning-making.
The live set was accompanied by a special tea blend by Jess Zamora-Turner and followed by an informal conversation about the translations of the poems and their contexts, including the ongoing refugee crisis on the Belarusian-Polish border.
