The Unicorn is Killed and Brought to the Castle Cartoon presents Sam Keogh’s large-scale drawings on lightweight paper, designed to be folded, transported in a suitcase, and repeatedly reinstalled. Mobility is not simply a practical concern but a condition of the work itself.
The title refers both to one of the late medieval Hunt of the Unicorn tapestries and to the cartoon—the full-scale preparatory drawing from which a tapestry would traditionally be woven. Within these compositions, medieval motives intersect with fantasy gaming and popular culture, bringing them into the same visual ecology. The drawings also serve as stages for live performance, temporarily activated through spoken narrative before returning to the status of autonomous images. The Exhibition documentation captures this dual existence through views of the installation before and after the performance.

Hannah Gregory’s accompanying text, thin transportation, extends these concerns through a reflection on portability, movement, and the material conditions of artistic production, echoing the work’s conception as room-sized drawings designed to travel in a single suitcase.
